The beauty of CBD is that it’s so versatile, and there are endless ways to incorporate it into your life.
Instead of thinking of it like a medicine to take, you can use it in your everyday self-care routine in a number of ways. Here are five easy ways to start incorporating CBD into your self-care routine. Make your own CBD mask at homeAdding a mask to your skincare routine is a great way to slow down and take some time for yourself. You can use masks from the store, or you can make them for yourself. The upside of making your own masks is that you know exactly what’s going into them. Making fresh face masks is also a great way to avoid skincare preservatives. You can use a CBD tincture (like ours here) to up the relaxing and balancing properties of your homemade mask. Here are two easy CBD mask recipes. Purifying + hydrating CBD honey clay mask
Calming + soothing CBD + honey + matcha mask
Apply the mask of your choice onto freshly cleansed skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then gently wipe away with a warm, damp washcloth. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer. Care for your body with CBDSelf-massage with a CBD body oilSelf-massage has many benefits, including increased circulation, easier sleep, injury prevention, balancing your mind-body connection, and stimulating organ function. Using a CBD massage oil, like our Nirvana or Euphoria oils, can elevate your self-massaging sessions. Instead of just using a plain massage oil, a CBD massage oil will go deeper into your body to relax and restore your muscles and mind. If you’re not sure where to get started with self-massage, here’s a video with some great tips from a massage therapist. Take a CBD-infused bath What sounds better than a warm, relaxing, CBD-infused bath? But before you go and waste product by just dropping it into bath water, consider making your own CBD-infused bath products. Just adding a tincture straight into your bath can quickly waste a lot of product because it won’t be absorbed into your body as well. You can make your own CBD bath bombs at home. Here’s a quick recipe that makes about 6 bath bombs. You will need... Bath bomb molds Dry ingredients:
Wet ingredients:
Directions:
Or, if you don’t want to make bath bombs, and you like using scrubs in the bath, you can use our Scrub Me Sweetly that’s infused with CBD oil. When you rinse it off, it will be easier infused in your bathwater, so you can soak up all of the benefits. Make a CBD Latte at HomeYou’ve probably seen CBD lattes being offered since last year in specialty coffee shops. If you tend to get the jitters when you drink coffee, CBD infused coffee can help. There are many benefits to taking CBD that counteract the effects of caffeine, like
And good news for us who are stuck at home: if you have a CBD tincture, you can make your own CBD-infused latte. Ingredients:

Researchers are unsure if CBD actually regulates sleep functions themselves. It may be that CBD helps get rid of the barriers keeping you back from a good night’s sleep rather than making you sleep. Some people find that they sleep well by taking it right before, while others report that incorporating it throughout the day helps regulate their sleep cycle better over time. If you’re incorporating CBD into your daily routine, try taking a dosage about an hour before you go to sleep. If you have a relaxing, nightly routine, this will allow your body the time to absorb the CBD so you fall asleep when you want to. Using CBD to Boost Meditation SessionsJust like CBD can regulate sleep function over time, it can increase your mental clarity and focus over time. If you’re practicing meditation, but can’t clear your mind of worries and distracting thoughts, CBD can help you regain the ability to keep your mind focused. Similar to what we mentioned earlier, people who use CBD and meditate find that it’s most effective when you’ve incorporated CBD as part of a holistic lifestyle. Integrating dosages throughout your day can promote better mental and physical health overall. And since CBD takes about an hour to take effect, it’s better to have it integrated so you don’t have to wake up an hour before your early morning meditation session to get the full benefits of CBD. The ultimate best way to use CBD is to use it as a normal part of your everyday routine, not just as a “treat.” But we hope these five ways spark ideas of how you can live a more happy, healthy lifestyle.

We don’t yet know the full potential of CBD, because we don’t fully understand the endocannabinoid system in our body. But what we do know is that it reaches farther than we thought before. And the potential benefits of CBD are still undiscovered. The main benefits we do know show that CBD nourishes three main things: the brain, the body, and the soul. CBD nourishes the brain NeuroprotectionCBD is being studied as a treatment for neurodegenerative diseases because it protects and preserves the neurons in our bodies. On top of that, it’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which further protects the delicate neurons throughout our bodies from injury. CBD has successfully treated epilepsy and is also being studied as a treatment for Huntington’s disease, neuroinflammation, oxidative injuries, and schizophrenia. AnxietyLike we’ve talked about before, the clinical trials necessary for CBD to be considered a viable anti-anxiety treatment have not been done yet. But, a smaller study has been done on the effects of CBD on people with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and anxiety caused by PTSD (none yet for people with panic disorder, specific phobia, separation anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder). The results showed that CBD improved the anxiety of the patients, with the only negative side effects being fatigue and sedation. Which is a huge improvement compared to side effects of anti-anxiety medication…
DepressionWe know CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, but it also affects the metabotropic system. The metabotropic system has receptors for serotonin. Researchers believe that CBD doesn’t cause the production of serotonin, but affects how the body responds and uses available serotonin. If the body is just misusing serotonin instead of being in a deficit because of this, CBD could help balance the body’s function and relieve depression caused by this misuse. SleepSleep disturbances, whether from emotional stress or bodily stress, may also be helped by CBD. If it can help your body manage the use of serotonin, that may help you sleep better. Common side effects of CBD can be fatigue and sedation. Meaning, you can fall asleep faster and stay asleep. On top of that, if you have chronic pain that keeps you up at night, CBD can soothe the pain and help you sleep through the night. CBD nourishes the body InflammationCytokines are proteins that signal inflammation in the body. They control both the start and finish of the inflammation response. A lot of diseases we used to not understand seem to be linked to inflammation disrupting our microbiome. People who take CBD report they have an overall sense of wellness. If it’s because their body doesn’t have to constantly recover from inflammation, that could be why. PainCBD helps relieve two types of pain in the body -- nociceptive and neuropathic. Nociceptive pain is caused by external sources that cause injuries. These injuries are things like bruises, broken bones, and burns. They cause acute pain and a lot of inflammation. Neuropathic pain is caused by injuries that alter the nervous system, usually severely and sometimes permanent. This chronic pain ranges from the numb, tingling pain to random sharp pain that’s caused by a damaged nerve “misfiring.” These types of pain are usually treated in undesirable ways, like long term use of steroids, antidepressants, opiates, or electrical stimulation. But CBD also has been shown to relieve both of these types of pain. And because it’s non-addictive and promotes healing instead of just masking the pain, many people are interested in this holistic method of treatment. SkinCBD is great for skin health, and especially for acne-prone skin. CBD is a great treatment for acne because
Chances are, if you have acne, you’re using drying products to control the oil on your skin. This causes an endless, too oily, too dry, too much acne cycle. CBD treats the root of the problem and can restore your skin to a healthy, stable state. ImmunomodulatoryCBD acts as an immunomodulator: a chemical agent that modifies the immune response or the functioning of the immune system (by the stimulating antibody formation or inhibiting white blood cell activity). It can prevent rapid cellular growth, which is why people believe it may be able to prevent cancer. CBD suppresses cytokines, but it also suppresses chemokines. Chemokines lead immune cells to an infection site so that the white blood cells can attack and destroy invading microbes. This discovery may lead to a holistic treatment for people with autoimmune disorders. CBD nourishes the soul AntipsychoticCBD has been found to have a small effect on symptoms of psychosis. It’s by no means a cure, but it opens the door to therapeutic options instead of pharmaceuticals. They’ve had the most notable effect on schizophrenia, improving the patient’s day-to-day lives. And it has shown nothing but positive effects -- no unwanted side effects that can make the treatment extremely difficult. Self-preservation and natural stabilityLike we’ve seen so far, CBD doesn’t just mask symptoms. It brings the body back into balance. The more we learn about the endocannabinoid system’s importance, the more popular it becomes in pharmacotherapy. Avid CBD users report that after using CBD over a period of months is really when they started to see the benefits. For example, women who use CBD every day report that the severity of their period cramps and mood swings lessened the longer they took CBD. CBD calms the fight-or-flight response and makes you more aware of your body. People often describe a grounding effect or an emotional “reset.” Restoring the mind-body-soul connectionAll of these amazing discoveries and the implied potential is why we and many others love incorporating CBD into our daily lives. Not just to achieve a short-term relief, but to balance the brain, body and soul over time and live a healthier lifestyle. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0171298509000709?utm_campaign=CBDandImmuneSystem&utm_medium=LearnAboutCBD&utm_source=Blog&utm_term=Blog-LearnAboutCBD-CBDandImmuneSystem-MiddleOfPost_Link-20190909

Here are some more ingredients that enhance theeffectiveness of CBD oil. Products that contain these ingredients can give you a more comprehensive CBD experience and ensure you’re getting the highest-quality products. Rosehip oil Rosehip oil is a linoleic-rich carrier oil. It’s best for nourishing oily skin types and perfect for anyone who doesn’t want a greasy feeling on their skin. Rosehip oil naturally contains vitamin A, C and E. These vitamins boost collagen production and increase cell turnover. This gives your skin a healthy glow, heals blemishes, and fades hyperpigmentation. Because it absorbs quickly and deeply into the skin, rosehip oil is an excellent carrier oil for topical CBD. Rosehip oil enhances the anti-inflammatory properties and restorative properties of CBD oil. Together, they prevent skin cell breakdown and fortify the skin’s natural barrier. Evening primrose oilEvening primrose oil is another linoleic acid that reduces skin inflammation. It also contains gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) which stimulates skin growth. It can also reduce transepidermal water loss, fortify the skin barrier, and regulate sebum production. This makes it ideal for people with sensitized, acne-prone skin. Paired with CBD, it works to balance and restore problematic skin types. Arnica oil Arnica oil is another carrier oil that is commonly used in homeopathic remedies. It’s been used to treat skin, hair, and scalp conditions. It’s also been used for pain relief, notably for pain from surgery, osteoarthritis, and skin lesions. If you have ragweed allergies, it’s possible that topical arnica could irritate your allergies because of the flower it’s extracted from. But if you don’t, topical arnica can give you many benefits that are enhanced by CBD. They work together to reduce inflammation and swelling, soothe pain, and prevent infection. Carrot seed oilCarrot seed oil is a carrier oil taken from the blossoms of Queen Anne’s lace (or the wild carrot plant). Carrot seed oil is mainly found in anti-aging products, but it also has other benefits.
These many benefits work in harmony with CBD oil to soothe, balance, and restore a number of conditions. They’re both alike in that they address a large number of conditions that may otherwise need to be treated with unwanted chemicals or pharmaceuticals. Helichrysum oil Helichrysum oil comes from a type of daisy that grows in southern Europe and the Mediterranean. Like hemp, the whole part of this plant is utilized. Helichrysum oil is extracted from the stems and leaves of the plant. The flowers are often dried and used for other medicinal purposes. Unlike arnica oil, helichrysum isn’t likely to cause allergies. It’s commonly used to reverse them. Helichrysum has been shown to reverse allergic reactions caused by touching an irritant. Because it’s also high in anti-inflammatory properties, it can soothe irritation or inflammation caused by the immune system. This gives it a unique advantage to other anti-inflammatory botanicals because it can soothe the reaction the immune system has to allergens. It also can relieve muscle and joint inflammation. Much like CBD, it’s a very versatile and comprehensive botanical that’s ideal for soothing and restoring the body. Cardamom oil Cardamom oil is an essential oil from a spice similar to turmeric. Just like turmeric, there is a long list of amazing health benefits you get from eating it often. The scent of cardamom is sharp and sweet, and people often compare it to mint. In aromatherapy, it’s used to increase concentration and mental fortitude. This sense of grounding can be helpful for people struggling with the distraction that accompanies anxiety and depression. Accompanied by the relaxing effects of CBD, this essential oil can mentally ground you and physically revive and restore you. Geranium oil Geranium oil is an essential oil that comes from the geranium flower. It has many benefits that have been acclaimed scientifically and anecdotally. Some of these qualities include antioxidant, antimicrobial, and astringent properties. In aromatherapy, it’s had some surprising effects. There have been scientific studies on the aromatic effects of geranium oil on women in labor. In the first stages of labor, inhaling geranium oil calmed the women and notably reduced their stress. Many people claim that the geranium scent also relieves depression and helps them to relax. This effect has been observed on mice in a recent study. CBD also has some antidepressant and anti-anxiety properties. Check out our latest article to learn more. Conclusion When it comes to CBD products, you want to be sure you’re getting both high-quality CBD and intentional formulations that take the entire experience into consideration. Our products use the ingredients we mentioned (and others we haven’t gotten to yet) in order to create a comprehensive holistic experience. We have a wide range of high-quality products. Here are some recommendations on where to get started:

The healing properties of CBD oil balance and nourish nearly all skin types and skin conditions. Because it directly communicates with our endocannabinoid system, it works on a deeper level, going beyond what ordinary skincare products can do. CBD for acne-prone skin We’ve all suffered from acne at one point. CBD skincare products are a better alternative than drugstore products, especially if you find them drying or causing even more breakouts. This is because... CBD oil controls sebum production and reduces inflammation caused by acne. If your skin produces too much sebum, and you have shiny, greasy skin no matter what you do, it needs to be brought into balance. Instead of using alcohol to try to dry it away, you can use CBD oil. It calms the receptors in your skin that trigger sebum production, reducing the mid-day oiliness. You know when your skin turns bright red and hurts before a pimple appears? That’s caused by cytokines--the sudden inflammation that warns of a new breakout. CBD oil prevents these cytokines from activating and can even prevent further breakouts by halting these overreactions. CBD oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties. CBD oil has antibacterial properties that can keep your acne from getting infected and causing more damage to your skin. Those deep, blistery pimples that stubbornly stay on your face no matter how much you wash? CBD oil nourishes them, unlike harsh, drying lotions. If you have small, stubborn, itchy bumps (usually on your forehead), CBD oil can clear them away. Its antifungal properties affect your skin on a deep level, giving you clear and non-irritated skin. CBD oil reduces scarring and heals broken capillaries. You probably have tons of products in your medicine cabinet that get rid of breakouts, but do any of them continue to heal the scarring left behind? CBD does both. It heals hyperpigmentation from old acne and broken capillaries that come from picking or popping acne. Supporting ingredients we incorporate to also heal acne and restore beautiful skin: Neroli oil: diminishes acne scars, reduces inflammation, and is antioxidant-rich Rosehip oil: diminishes hyperpigmentation, hydrates itchy skin, and encourages cell turnover CBD for sensitive skin If you’re very ingredient-sensitive, CBD oil is perfect for you because allergies are so rare. It also helps repair issues that may be causing your sensitive skin. CBD oil reduces reactivity. If you have sensitive skin, you’ve probably had more than one time getting a random flare-up: a red, burning spot on your face for no reason...that makes you wonder if you’re going to have a massive breakout...but disappears later without a trace. These flare-ups are a sign of a damaged skin barrier. Your skin barrier can be damaged by harsh products, pollution, or even using too many products at once. CBD oil restores and repairs your skin barrier, healing a multitude of skin issues and simplifying your skincare routine. CBD oil protects and fortifies your skin barrier. CBD oil acts like a protective layer on your skin to keep the bad stuff out and the good stuff in. It keeps out environmental damages like free radicals and pollution that can trigger flare-ups. It also lets your skin barrier retain more moisture by reducing transepidermal water loss. Over time, this resolves dehydrated skin and chronic dry patches that plague you if your skin barrier is damaged. CBD oil helps heal eczema and psoriasis and on a deeper level. CBD oil can help people suffering from eczema and psoriasis for all the reasons above, but also for one that makes CBD oil a no-brainer--it repairs skin on a deeper level than other oils can’t. Because it communicates with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, CBD oil is believed to balance a compromised immune system that may be responsible for these skin conditions. Supporting ingredients we incorporate to soothe and strengthen sensitive skin: Jojoba oil: commonly used to soothe symptoms of rosacea and eczema, won’t clog your skin, speeds up the skin barrier repair process Evening primrose oil: rebalances hormones, helps fight cystic acne CBD for anti-aging If you’re trying to retain youthful, healthy skin without using harsh retinoids or chemical treatments, CBD oil can help you maintain a healthy glow. CBD oil contains antioxidants that scavenge free radicals. Like mentioned earlier, CBD contains antioxidants that protect the skin from the outside environment. This promotes overall skin health and protects the skin from early aging. This is because antioxidants act like a protective barrier that repel free radicals--molecules that speed up the aging or oxidation of skin cells. CBD oil can visibly reduce wrinkles and fade hyperpigmentation. If you already have fine lines or age spots, the antioxidants in CBD oil can help undo some of the damage. Just like a Vitamin C serum, CBD oil contains antioxidants that brighten, firm, and smooth your skin with continued use. CBD oil restores a glowy bounce in your skin. CBD oil reduces dullness and restores a healthy glow (but not just an oily sheen you get from other oils). But because it nourishes your skin on such a deep level, it gives you a glow from the inside out. It also restores the youthful bounce in your skin by healing the internal damage that causes sagging or over-tightness in the skin. Supporting ingredients we incorporate for a youthful glow from within: Hyaluronic acid: hydrates, reduces redness, and restores bounce CoQ10 (an antioxidant): evens skin tone and skin texture CBD oil isn’t like any ordinary ingredient. It’s a lifestyle change you can incorporate to promote overall well-being and to maintain your skin health for the long term. We’re proud to offer the highest-quality CBD skincare. We all get them, and we all hate them. You could strive to live a totally natural lifestyle, avoid pain-killers and processed food... ...but a few hours of cramps and weepiness could have you reaching for extra-strength motrin and a bag of hot Cheetos. So if you’re trying to live more holistically and get away from using so many chemicals (that aggravate your period symptoms anyways), you can try CBD. It helps nearly any symptom you get during your cycle, and with consistent use, may be able to balance your symptoms so your periods become more manageable. How CBD Can Balance Your Body and Mind During PMS Comforting your PMS emotions Anxiety and stress Sublingual CBD is widely known to calm anxiety and stress. Many women who use it during stressful times report feeling like their emotions were “reset,” or that they were subtly calmed back to their normal state. Since CBD oil is non-psychoactive, you don’t have to worry about what time of day you take it. So if you have to go to work or take care of your children, you won’t be impairing your ability to go about your normal routine. You can take it anytime you’re feeling stressed. Depression The depression that usually accompanies anxiety during PMS can also be relieved by CBD, because it affects how your body handles serotonin. Researchers believe that during PMS your body may have enough serotonin, but just isn’t using it effectively. So if you get the blues while you’re PMSing, it could be that you need to regulate instead of medicate. Managing the physical effects of PMS Insomnia Do you find yourself up all night a few days before your period starts? These sleep disturbances are caused by many things--some being the emotional stress from fluctuating hormones or your body’s inhibited use of serotonin. CBD may be able to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep through the night. Researchers are still trying to uncover why this is. It could be that CBD helps regulate your sleep. Or it could also be that CBD helps relieve the conditions that are causing your sleep to be disturbed. Either way, CBD can help you feel more rested and relaxed throughout your cycle. Hormonal breakouts Topical CBD helps reduce painful, hormonal acne by suppressing the cytokines (inflammation stressors) that cause the red, painful bumps around your chin and jawline. It can also soothe and regulate your skin if your skin seems to change types throughout the month. Since CBD is suitable for both dry and oily skin, you can always reach for your holy grail CBD serum instead of changing from dry-skin-friendly to oily-skin-friendly products throughout the month. How CBD Can Soothe and Relieve Your Body During Your PeriodRelieving painful cramps Relaxing tired muscles The relaxing, pain-relieving qualities of CBD are probably the first thing you think of--and the main reason why you’re reaching for it when your cramps start. CBD has been shown to block neuropathic and chronic pain, which cover a wide variety of symptoms you get on your period. So if you get nasty cramps that go all the way down your legs, try a CBD cream instead of reaching for a pharmaceutical pain-killer. Suppositories for an effective doseSome women have found CBD vaginal suppositories do wonders to relieve their period cramps. As an alternative to putting CBD cream on your lower abdomen, you can try this to get more concentrated effects closer to your uterus. There are premade CBD suppositories out there, but you can DIY them using coconut oil and CBD tincture you may already have. (Suppositories absorb very easily into your body, so start off with a smaller dose than what you would take sublingually) Keeping your body in balanceRegulating your gut-brain connectionIf you’ve heard the buzz about probiotic skincare, you know how important our gut-brain axis is. But researchers have also discovered the endocrine system may be part of that axis--and mainly regulated by the endocannabinoid system. Since CBD has been known to positively affect your gut, it can help a lot during your period, like if you get IBS-like symptoms. If you tend to get nauseated on the first couple days of your cycle, CBD can suppress the nausea and stimulate your appetite. Managing symptoms for the long-term Do you feel like you’re hit by a train when your period starts, and struggle to maintain motivation or productivity? Some women report that they’ve made their periods more manageable by consistently taking CBD—or at least taking it during the days leading up to their periods. They say it helps keep the body and mind balanced, helping you not be so shocked by how horrible you feel on your first day. What products to look for The case for CBD relieving PMS and menstrual symptoms is mainly based on anecdotal evidence. But the positive effects are so widespread and sworn by, they’re hard to deny. There are randomized, double-blinded studies coming to confirm the efficacy of CBD. As always, ask your doctor before you start using CBD products or taking CBD sublingual drops. CBD is very friendly to most people because allergies are so rare. But it can have some rare interactions with other medications (this is more commonly known as the grapefruit effect). When you’re looking for CBD products to buy, look for these qualifications.
Our CBD meets those qualifications and are of the highest standards. If you’re looking for relief specifically for PMS or menstrual cramps, here’s what we would recommend.
We also have a more concentrated version of The Tincture and Relief Cream if you respond better to an intense dose of CBD. Sources usedhttps://dailycbd.com/en/condition/premenstrual-syndrome/

How do you tell a quality product from something that just says “CBD” on the packaging? Here are some things you can look for to help you navigate the market and make sure you’re buying safely and supporting ethical companies. Non-GMO CBD GMO (genetically modified organisms) refers to plants whose genes have been artificially altered. Through genetic engineering, scientists have been able to modify plant structures in ways that seem beneficial. This includes getting rid of unwanted genes in plants, rather than naturally breed them out. Or making them resistant to pesticides. Some people believe that GMO is a good thing for hemp, mainly because you would be able to control and predict the amount of THC in a batch. This solves the problem of harvests “going hot” and suddenly having a THC level higher than the US legal standard of 0.3%. On the surface, this would make CBD industry regulations easier. But there are still many concerns about using GMO hemp. Top Concerns With GMO Hemp Many GMO crops have been modified to prevent the plant from absorbing pesticides (“Roundup Ready” plants). But in that process, the nutrients of the plant become less potent. This effect has been observed among several types of agriculture, with the small animals not being able to survive off of the nutrients of GMO crops. In fact, it’s considered a large part of why bees are dying out. Not only do GMO crops potentially harm the environment, but it would also allow big business to take over the industry. Say a small farmer worked for years, crossbreeding hemp to create the ideal plant that’s nutrient-rich and contains the right amount of THC to be legal… But then, in a lab, a corporation artificially created the same strain, and patents it. Suddenly, the plant is intellectual property, and the small farmer wouldn’t be able to profit off of their hard work. A race to artificially create the most profitable, legal hemp encourages a game of quick wins, not necessarily what’s best for the earth. We also don’t yet understand the long-term risks of GMOs in our diet. The research is unclear at this moment, with no agreements if it’s harmful or not harmful. The American Cancer Society has done a lot of studies about the effects of GMOs, as many people remain suspicious that GMOs may be a cause of cancer. Although there’s no evidence it does cause cancer, they have not done studies to prove it does not cause cancer. Since we can’t be sure about the consequences of GMO CBD on our health, we suggest sticking to non-GMO products. Third-party tested CBD The next thing you should look for in CBD products is third-party testing. Third-party testing keeps companies accountable and prevents them from taking advantage of a highly unregulated industry. Lack of regulations on the industry Because CBD is newly legal in the US, the industry is still widely unregulated. Companies have been exposed for using shady practices to get bigger profits. This includes selling products made from cheap, low-quality, sometimes infected hemp. Or exaggerating a product to be more high-quality than it actually is. You can protect yourself from false advertising by only buying from companies that offer third-party testing. If you call the lab and provide the batch number, they will give you the test results themselves so you can know you’re not getting duped. Testing for safety Third-party lab tests also test for the presence of heavy metals or pesticides. Unfortunately, there are companies out there who would cut corners that much to buy and sell infected products to make more money. There’s so much infected hemp because it’s also used as a phytoremediator. Basically, it cleans the soil it’s been planted in. It’s been used to rapidly heal the most toxic environments, like Chernobyl and other radioactive sites. Not that you’d be getting hemp straight from Chernobyl, but there are many places in the US where the soil contains heavy metals and pesticides. If you stick to third-party tested CBD, you can be confident you’re not putting any nasty toxins in or on your body. Non-isolate CBD You may have heard that isolate is called the “purest form of CBD.” But the truth is, it’s missing a lot of the natural parts of the plant that also gives you health benefits. CBD isolate doesn’t contain some cannabinoids, the terpenes, and the flavonoids present in full-spectrum CBD. When you use full-spectrum CBD products, you get all of the health benefits from each part of the hemp. This is called the “entourage effect.” The entourage effect is when all parts of a plant work together for one, magnified therapeutic benefit. With CBD isolate, the taste, smell, and some effects are removed to get a “pure” form of CBD. Think of it like eating an orange for vitamin C...but without the sharp scent you get when you first peel the orange, and without the energy you get just from the flavor. You’d still get the nutrients, but it’s just not the same. We recommend full-spectrum CBD oil so you don’t miss any part of the synergy of the hemp plant. CBD Oil From European Hemp Many of the highest quality CBD products come from European hemp. Because they’ve had a thriving hemp industry for years, farmers aren’t under vague regulations like they are in the US. The soil in the mediterranean climate of Europe is very rich and nutrient dense. And since hemp farmers in Europe have more experience, they know how to rotate their crops to produce the richest harvest without using GMOs. We’re proud to source our CBD from European hemp for these reasons. Click here to learn more about our products and how we strive for the highest quality. Sources

If you’re using CBD for a certain issue, you definitely need the whole formulation to be working hard to treat your condition. Too many skincare products are full of meaningless filler, and CBD products are no exception. What ingredients are in your favorite product, and do you know the reason? Carrier oilsBut wait, can’t CBD be a carrier oil? Or even hemp oil? Will another oil just dilute it and make it not as powerful? Carrier oils don’t dilute the power of CBD oil at all. Actually, they make the CBD more effective by upping its bioavailability, or ability to absorb and use certain compounds. Our bodies can’t absorb pure CBD oil into the bloodstream. But when it’s infused with a carrier oil, our bodies can easily absorb and use the CBD. The carrier oils we choose for our products not only assist in increasing bioavailability, but they also complement CBD’s abilities and make a more effective product. Grapeseed oilGrapeseed oil is a fantastic carrier oil for CBD. It’s high in linoleic acid, which is the best type of oil for oily skin types. If you have oily skin, you’re probably hesitant to put even more oils on your skin. But linoleic acid was made for you. Oily skin has lower levels of linoleic acid in the sebum, and using linoleic acid actually brings your skin into balance. Along with balancing oily skin, grapeseed oil also
Sunflower seed oil Sunflower seed oil is also high in linoleic acid and shares many of the same healing benefits as grapeseed oil. Sunflower seed oil is becoming more popular since it outperformed olive oil in a study. If you have erythema or atopic dermatitis, olive oil can exacerbate these conditions. In the study, sunflower seed oil didn’t irritate any of these conditions. It actually made them better. Since then, it’s quickly replacing olive oil as a light, non-greasy carrier oil in skin products. Apricot kernel oil Apricot kernel oil is richer in mostly oleic acid, making it better for people with dry skin types or people who like a richer oil on their skin. But it’s still fairly high in linoleic acids, so it has a lot of the same benefits. And even though it’s richer, it still feels very light and not greasy. It also
Apricot kernel oil is only in our topical products. It shouldn’t be ingested because it can become poisonous. Essential oils Essential oils can elevate the relaxing properties of CBD oil by adding an aromatic experience. They can also add a natural flavor to ingestible CBD oil for people who don’t like the plain taste. Peppermint Oil Peppermint is a common flavor for oral CBD. Along with making the CBD oil taste better, it has a lot of soothing and restorative properties. Like when you drink a cup of mint tea for an upset stomach or indigestion. When it’s applied topically, peppermint oil can relieve headaches, muscle pain, and nerve pain. If you dab it near or on your face, the scent soothes the respiratory system, alleviates cold symptoms, and breaks up sinus congestion. It can also improve alertness. The combination of anti-anxiety from CBD and alertness from peppermint can be just what you need when a middle of the day snack isn’t a good enough pick-me-up. Lavender Oil Lavender oil is in our products meant to soothe and relax your mind and your muscles.Lavender is practically synonymous with relaxation. Some of our favorite benefits include
Lavender is also topically antibacterial and antifungal, which fight acne or irritated skin. ChamomileWe pair chamomile with lavender like everyone’s favorite sleepy time tea. Chamomile oil has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve
Neroli oil Neroli Oil is the beautiful Italian fragrance that comes from the orange blossom. It’s a very indulgent fragrance, and perfect for the times you need to feel refreshed and pampered. It’s used in aromatherapy to relieve the symptoms of
Other botanicals Turmeric is a spice we normally use in food, or drink in the golden lattes, but it’s got amazing skin benefits. Normally turmeric on its own stains your skin yellow, but we’ve formulated our products to not do that. When you think of turmeric, you probably think “anti-inflammation.” But it’s been used for a long time to treat wounds.
Aloe Aloe is obviously the champion of sunburn treatments. You can use it for many conditions other than that though.
Elevating CBD’s effects This is by no means an exhaustive list, just some of our favorites we include in our formulations. Stay tuned for future blog posts. We’ll continue talking about our favorite botanicals and holistic ingredients. Shop our wellness, beauty, and CBD concentrate products to get your glow from within. Don’t get me wrong, CBD has incredible benefits for your mind, body, and spirit. But the industry is new, and regulations aren’t always met. While distributors of marijuana, hemp, and CBD products are required to test for heavy metals, that doesn’t mean they always do it right. Recently, there have been recalls of contaminated products.
We who turn to CBD for it’s powerful benefits are looking for a holistic, non-pharmacological, non-toxic approach to managing pain. We shouldn’t have an added worry about heavy metals in CBD oil. The Problems Contaminated Hemp Can CauseLet’s be clear on what commonly contaminantes hemp.4
Heavy metal exposure leads to devastating, long-term effects like:
And pesticides alone is a whole other beast. Natural skincare brands have recognized the terrible effects of pesticides on skin, including
We’ve been aware of these issues for years. It’s only natural to wonder . . . How common is it?Well, in a randomized test on 57 cannabis concentrate samples coming from hemp grown in California, 80% were found to be contaminated.5 Yikes. The problem isn’t pesticides or heavy metals alone—the nature of hemp is why contamination is common. Hemp Is a Powerful PhytoremediatorPhyto what? “Phytoremediation: use of various types of plants to remove, transfer, stabilize, and/or destroy contaminants in the soil and groundwater.”6 In other words, hemp breaks down toxins and pollutants present in the soil it’s planted in. It literally does good wherever it goes. How does hemp clean the ground it’s planted in?Hemp is an effective phytoremediator for three reasons:
Because hemp has such deep roots and grows so quickly, it’s able to rapidly repair an environment. It has the incredible ability to grow even in the worst soil conditions because it soaks up whatever it’s given. This has led it to be used in some of the most devastated places on Earth. Hemp was used to repair the Chernobyl disaster site.Back in the 90’s, hemp fields were planted around the Chernobyl disaster site.7 Even in fields of nuclear waste, among heavy metals like cadmium, nickel, and chromium, the hemp flourished and fantastically reduced the amount of toxins present. Phytotech, the company that helped with this project, said it’s one of the best phytoremediators they’re found to date. Despite their healthy outward appearance, industrial hemp used for phytoremediation is polluted and useful only for things like biofuel. The Other Uses of Contaminated HempWith the alarming amount of contaminated products on the market, it’s obvious that not all hemp manufacturers are taking the right precautions. Some misconceptions in the new industry can shed light onto why that is. Some people brush off the importance of the soil quality where hemp is grown. Yes, hemp is like a toxins sponge, but it’s really just the roots that soak up the bad stuff. While that’s not at all true, it’s worth noting that sustainable brands use every part of the plant and need cohesive quality. Is any part of the plant usable? A study done on the quality of hemp planted in contaminated soil admits that the leaves are contaminated. But right after that, they claim the bud is clean... But fail to provide any evidence to back their claim up.8 Considering the recalls and unconfirmed claims, it’s easy to be completely skeptical of the industry. The industry is growing fast, and many big companies may be irresponsibly looking for the cheapest deal instead of the safest choice for their customers. It comes down to this.Contaminated soil grows contaminated hemp. And if that contaminated hemp is processed into CBD oil, it’s going to be extremely concentrated. Now, think about putting a super-concentrated CBD oil from hemp planted in soil with high levels of arsenic or lead, onto your skin or under your tongue—that’s an intense dose of toxins. If you’re putting a CBD cream on your back for menstrual cramps, the last thing you want on top of that is inflammation and hives. And over time, you don’t want the thing that was supposed to help you to be silently cultivating more serious issues. It comes down to this—soil quality matters. How can I figure out what companies are selling non-toxic CBD oil products?Luckily, you don’t have to be paranoid and throw out all of your CBD or hemp-based products. Since the hemp industry is new in America, it’s understandable that there are mistakes. Fortunately, many European countries have been a reliable source of hemp and CBD. Europe has been growing hemp far longer than America has and has fields of healthy, uncontaminated crops that have been around for years. Their ideal climate and years of experience yields them a much higher-quality crop than we can get in the U.S. And because of their less strict regulations, their hemp is purer and free of many pesticides used in America. You can read up on the history of the European Hemp Industry9 to learn more. Finding Quality CBD Products Hemp is too precious of a plant to be unsure about. When it’s pure, it has amazing benefits like nothing else. That’s why we at CBD+nature source our hemp from Europe. We know the value of CBD and know you need the highest quality to effectively manage your pain and skin conditions. We use third-party testing methods to assure our products aren’t contaminated with heavy metals or pesticides. This third-party assures our customers they’re getting clean, high-quality CBD oil. Our ECS has two main receptors -- CB1, which are found in the central nervous system and are key to a healthy functioning brain, and CB2, most often found on the cells of our immune system.
